As a Canadian I would guess you're as amused as I am that Americans find the superior square Robertson so mysterious, considering it's been on the market since 1908. :R
P. L. Roberston is a Canadian institution in these parts and while sadly manufacturing is now in China rather than here in Milton, Ontario where it was founded at least head office is still in Ontario. If there's any unfortunate chapter to this tale it's Robertson's refusal to grant Henry Ford exclusive rights to his design, the result being Ford turned to Henry Philips who had no issue licensing his inferior cross head Philips head design to Ford, thus becoming the most common head used in the US.
