Has to do with the OP's OP. Using an F450 to tow a 12~lb GVWR 5th wheel doesn't need a 4.88 ratio gear set. No different than towing it with an F350 or even an F250 as far as gear ratios go. Why would that be apples and oranges?
A F450 with tall gears will be a dog. They put low gears in them for a reason. Resell would be in the toilet. So you spend money to screw it up and then loose again to dump it. BTW did you happen to read that OP decided to leave it as is now? Chris
