Funny IB, I bought a 1976 F250 4x4 new back in 76 and yes it had the tank right behind the seat. And it was small at that so I added a plastic tank that was outside of the frame and the fill hole was in the rear driver side wheel well. Nobody died in it that I know of although it was stolen in the early 80's. Nice truck but I wouldn't buy it today knowing more information.
Steering problems have been a issue with Rams for years, you just have to know what to keep a eye on. No worse than a early PSD 6.0 or GM brake lines or GM pump rub. To know the known issues with any vehicle is certainly a wise move.
Yes I'd buy the Ram I just sold in a heartbeat if I needed that big of a truck again. Just know it's weakest link as they all have em.
Bottom line though is the recalls were not handled correctly by Ram. That is the reason for the fine.
