Most likely in regen. It's really odd that ram doesn't have the fresh air inlets to cool the outgoing exhaust.
Not reading through all of the posts, but I'm thinking he is referring to the grass under the truck not the grass near the exhaust pipe Troy.
But talking about fords "fresh air inlets to cool the outgoing exhaust" they seem to be working out well for them! :B
You're correct; the tailpipe had nothing to do with it. Just to clarify, when I said I let the truck idle for 15 minutes, it probably was not that long. I let it idle while I hitched up with my Equalizer hitch, then shut the truck off, then left it there on the grass never thinking about hurting the grass. Radiant heat from the exhaust was probably doing a number on the grass.
When I pulled away, I noticed the grass was very slightly brown in that area under the truck but at first it looked like grass that was not getting watered. Everybody's seen that condition where the grass looks a little brown in an area when the sprinklers are not hitting it. Did not occur to me the truck caused it.
Then we went away for 3 days and when we returned, the grass was practically dead in the area. The dead area was maybe 8-10 feet long and followed the path of the CTD exhaust on the passenger side. So my point is the entire length of the exhaust obviously gets very hot all the way from front to back. Live and learn!
