On my 2013 Duramax I start addig the fuel antigel when overnight temps start getting below freezing. I tyically only use the block heater when it ges really cold and leave it plugged in 24/7 when not driving.
I just use remote start on my LML. In 5-10 minutes cab is already warm, seat is toasty warm, windows defogged, and costs way less than running the block heater. Might use 30 cents of fuel, that's 2 hours of block heater cost. GM has done a great job of speeding up the warmup using the turbo vanes, exhaust brake and higher idle speed.
LML warms up way way way faster than my LLY did.
