Whatever reduces engine wear is a good idea.
Irrelevant whether the truck "needs" the BH. That's well past the point of it being a good idea. Oil still needs to get above 200F to reach operating temp, and coolant not far under that.
Reducing the time/miles is the thing. With temps near freezing and use of a grille block (partially effective versus full effectiveness of winter front) I start the drive with a 50F degree advantage. 80+ versus cold-soaked 35. Truck engine turns over more easily. Batteries not taxed so hard. Etc.
Winter front enclosing heat exchangers when temps are under 40F all day is the other idea to implement. A coolant/engine oil heat exchanger will struggle to get that oil temp up. Especially on short trips (under 50-miles), and without a load. Road speed wind chill effect.
Plugging in the truck isn't expensive by comparison. It's longevity of several systems, not just engine parts.
And there are thermostats for the 15A outlet available. As well as 24-HR timers.
Class 8 or these little light duty pickups.
