X-chocks

I have a 30' Jayco Jay flight. This is our first travel trailer. I recently leveled our trailer and when disconnected from my truck it rolled back about 2" and partially crushed my plastic wheel chocks! The sight had a slight grade on gravel.
After that I have bought the x-chocks, one for each wheel. My question is - Do I put the x-chocks on before or after leveling?

I think before since I got them to prevent the roll back. I still plan to use regular chocks also

  • Just make sure you are depending on more than the X-chocks for your chocking. I have first hand experience with a tire slipping on an x-chock and our camper falling off the jack blocks as a result. Thank God no one was hurt.

Yep, just the same when we're using our TT.
  • I'm sure I overthink it, but I have two methods. One is when camping, it goes like what most are saying above.

    1. level side to side.
    2. install X-chocks.
    3. unhitch and level front to back.

There are no traditional wheel chocks used in this process.

At home, I do it a little different.

    1. level side to side.
    2. block the wheels with normal wheel chocks.
    3. unhook and level front to back.
    4. install X-chocks.

I do this at home just to make sure the wheels/suspension are not loaded by the chocks. I don't really care for a weekend camping, but if the trailer will be sitting for an extended time I'd rather have everything settled before locking the wheels tight.

But that's probably just me over thinking it. :B
    • level side to side
    • chock the wheels
    • unhook from tow vehicle
    • level front to back

That is exactly what I was thinking. Thanks for a verifying. I guess I am second guessing too much.
  • I use the camco between the wheel ckocks. First thing on before unhitching, last thing off before we pull away.
  • I put mine after leveling side to side abut before unhooking and leveling front to back. :)
