In West I usually stay at Campfire Lodge and Resort, on the Madison. There are also some FS Cg's near by. Also in a pinch and depending where your heading there are several BLM CG's along the Madison. If you head toward Bozeman there a several FS CG's on that roadway.
Narcodog, I'd forgotten. Lewis Lake is the CG you're talking about. I'd forgotten about Flagg Ranch, now called something else, but if you take Grassy Lake Rd, there are several free campgrounds, with pit toilets, along the Snake River. We drove back to check them out and had a picnic there, but our 5th couldn't get in and turned around if anyone else was there.
