Yellowstone Trip
Hello, My family and I would like to take a trip from Wisconsin to Yellowstone next summer with some stops along the way. I am towing a Wilderness 3150ds 35 foot travel trailer weighing in at about 8,000lbs loaded. We tow with a 2013 Chevy Silverado 4x4 2500hd gas (3.73). Right now I am only getting about 7mpg. This gives me a range of 3 1/2 to maybe 4 hours before needing gas. That is in Wisconsin. I have never traveled out west. Should I consider a bed style external fuel tank? Would downsizing the trailer help? IT's not that I want to drive for 6 hours straight, but I don't want to be stranded. I feel like the mountains will cut that fuel range even more. Any thoughts would be great. I have considered downsizing to cut some length. 35 feet can be long in some places. Thanks
