beemerphile1- From my recent experience of buying a good used chevy/gmc truck with low miles, these things aren't cheap especially if you are looking for a 4 door, or ext cab AND 4x4. I noticed on some of these trucks I was looking at the mileage did not match the condition of the vehicle at all, and this usually means a service man used it around a complex or it was a jobsite truck that doesn't ever leave site. They have low miles, but are destroyed otherwise! So low miles I found out doesn't necessarily mean good truck.
I also suggest when your looking for used trucks is before you buy the one you want, have a local reputable repair shop put it up on a lift and do an inspection for you. These inspections are fairly cheap and can be well worth it.
When you find the right truck you will be happy you waited for and didn't just pick out first one you come across. I Ended up buying an 07'GMC with 65,000 and glad I passed on many others before I found this immaculate one!

I have seen and driven the truck, it is NOT in excellent condition. It has spent its life outside, has some rust, some interior damage, plating coming off the bumper. We have harsh winters here and the roads are salted. It is very good but not excellent.

I know it is an great combination for towing but what do you think of the price? Only drawback for towing is it doesn't have the extendable mirrors.

Based on the negatives you have noted, I would make an offer that is closer to the published values and if he does not take it then walk. You sound uncomfortable and IMO rightly so. Trucks are all over the place. The right one will come along.

In a dark time years ago I sold trucks for an independent dealer and this hits the nail on the head; every week that thing sits they'll get less and less confident about getting that $16g they're after and anyone who looked at that truck is going to get a phone call.

Sounds like normal wear for a 14yr old vehicle. Just give them your number and tell them to call you when they want to sell it. If they sell it to someone else so be it. When it get's near the end of the month and they still have it,I will put money on it that your phone will ring.

X2 on the brake lines. My 2002 Chevy 3500 maybe saw salt ONCE in its life. Blew the brake lines here about 2 weeks ago on the way to get parts for my daily driver.

If this 2002 was out in the salt at all, the OEM brake lines will be shot.

I didn't pay anywhere near $16,000 for mine 3 years ago, with 32K miles on it. Everybody that loaned money said I was crazy to spend that much on such an old truck.

Nobody would loan me money for it then, and I have great credit. I can't imagine anyone will loan you $16K for this one now. They kept telling me it was too old and too much money, even though it was right on book value.

They had absolutely no problem loaning me TWICE as much money for a truck ONE year newer with TWICE the miles on it (2003 2500HD Duramax)

A clean 8.1L with low miles is worth a markup. he will sell it for close to $16k. if you really like it and it`s clean jump on it!

Thanks for your input. You have confirmed my own feelings.

The truck was okay but I wasn't enthusiastic about it. The condition didn't seem to match the mileage indicating it was falsified or the truck was abused. According to Car Fax the mileage is correct.

If from a rust free area I might be able to pay the price. With the rust it is overpriced and they won't negotiate. I have the money and will be happy to pay it for the right truck. I guess this isn't the one.
