GM 4x4 transfer cases have a known defect from model years 2001 to 2007. Google "GM Pump Rub" and see the results. The fix requires pulling the transfer case and installing new parts to prevent wear through.
Sometimes the "fix" is for the owner to JB Weld the hole, but the parts inside continue to damage the transfer case and the JB Weld is simply a band aid unless the upgraded parts are installed inside the transfer case.
Something you might want to check, has it been fixed? Has it been patched? I just had my truck fixed for this problem, and it was just north of $500.00.
If the failure were to occur while you're driving the transfer case can run out of fluid in a fairly short time, which would really ruin your day and would cost several thousand to fix.
This is the reason we got rid of our 2005. The transfer case replacement cost was not in line with the value of the truck.
