Zion Nat. Park RV parks w/hookups?

Hi All,

We are heading to Zion the end of next week. I've never been there! I know about South Campground (no facilities) and Watchman Campground (no availability) so those are out. I've done some research and found a few campgrounds "nearby", such as Zion River Resort on the way to the park, and Zion West, as well as others not so close by. I'm not towing a car and won't be taking my camper off the truck so closeness to the park is best. We will be arriving after boondocking for 3 days so I'd like full hookups. I'll also do some more searching here on this site for info, but any suggestions or ideas?

Quiet and peaceful and pretty are good.. ;)

Thanks in advance!

Dak

Zion Canyon Campground is location, location, LOCATION. Next to Watchman(where I will be tomorrow) I would stay there. On the shuttle and close to every thing. If I can't get into Watchman, that's where we stay.

That is where I stayed on the second night after picking up the new trailer. The park was pretty empty as it was early April. Yes they will pack you in like sardines if they can, even with a vast amount of the park empty they still tried to fit un next to another larger trailer so we requested another spot, perhaps #42 as it was diagnal(have to look at map) and it was perfect.

The park was great then but I cannot speak for the busy season.
  • Vermilye and James, do you remember what space it was? I like the dinner view at least!

Zion River Resort is in Virgin, UT, about 15 miles from the park. Zion Canyon RV park is in Springdale & on the Zion Shuttle bus route. Nothing special - it is behind a motel, but it is on the river & some of the sites have a great view. Here is a link to a page showing my site & the view from it at the campground.

HA! Looks like the same spot we had!
  • Thanks for your replies folks! I don't expect total peace and quiet as I'm quite aware of the crowds at national parks, it's just a preference wherever I camp :) I think it will be Zion Canyon. I spoke to them today and they have spaces available. I do want to be as close to the park as possible. Zion River Resort also has a shuttle to the park, and spaces available, so maybe... I'll decide tonite.

    Thanks again!

  • We stayed at the Zion Canyon Campground, which is in reality a parking lot behind the Quality Inn. On the plus side, it's in a terrific location just outside the park in Springdale. The park shuttle stops very close to the Inn. I'd doubt that you'd be happy there after boon-docking though. They pack 'em in like a cattle pen. I forget the name of it, but I believe that there is a place east of the park that might be more to your liking. It would be less convenient, but you'd be out of the parking lot/cattle pen.

  • Almost 3 million visitors go to Zion every year and you want "quiet and Peaceful"? The park bus stops at Zion Canyon Campground and they have full hookups but I don't think downtown Springdale is quiet or peaceful.
