Xantrex makes a 3000 inverter charger too. I believe the Xantrex is solid state and Victron relies on Transformers. Victron is substantially heaver and larger.
I like to run the fridge on propane, usually about 5 hours a day. The solar easily keeps up and more with the demand. Just remember to switch back to propane as the sun sets. Over a month or two time, it adds up to a significant savings on propane with free solar. Or actually pays back the solar system cost faster the more I use it to the fullest. I'm coming up on my first Megawatt of solar production soon. May there be many more...
how much can it really save in propane. I can run the fridge 2 months on a 20lbs bottle, it costs me 17 bucks CDN so about 11.97 (12.00) bucks US to fill from empty at Costco so, we will take 45 days instead of 60 for the purpose of calculation that is 0.44 lbs per day at 0.85 CDN (0.60 US) per LB so 0.374 CDN (0.26 US) per day of running. so running it for the 5 hours a day will save you about 0.08 US a day. now this is based off my fridge, bigger ones bay use more propane, but it won't vary a huge amount, I have never tried a run to flame out on the 5th wheel fridge and it is a bigger one but I have gone 30 days on a tank just running the fridge. My solar cost me 300 bucks plus a little bit here and there so say 350.00 cdn plus the batteries at the time were 6v so about 600 all said and done. it would take me 1.96 years for pay back running on electricity all day every day and since I camp maybe 60 days a year that's almost a 7 year pay back.
But I didn't put the solar on for propane reduction, propane is by far the most efficient fuel source to use for a adsorption fridge over 12V and 120V power. I got the solar so I wouldn't have to cut a trip short because I am running out of power for the lights, furnace and water pump.
now I probably could switch to 12V and run during the day, say at noon and stay there till supper time, but that means I would have to be sitting, at the camper, to do it and not out hiking mountain trails or in town exploring, but ya if your around and remember then it saves something. now if you figure out a good way to not use the furnace in the spring and early winter that would be a game changer for me haha.
