Okanagan 117 DBL

This was our first night at the West Yellowstone KOA.


And this is what happened to the slide motor.

The only real Issue I know of with OK 117DBL is the slide motors. Mine has had the rear slide motor replaced before I bought it used and then the main slide motor housing broke in half on me on a trip to Yellowstone last summer. The motors are hard to find and run from $575 to $800 depending on where you find one. I really like mine but my wife does not. She prefers our Fifth Wheel for our family of four and two dogs. It is heavy, no doubt. With just stable loads on my 2011 F-350, it sat very level side to side but the bumper dropped alot. I added air bags to level the front to back. With the four of use we were able to spend a week at Yellowstone before needing to add water or drain the tanks.

It sounds like PO put a lot of thought into this setup.

A good inspection and test drive will tell a lot...but it sure sounds nice.

It may be worthwhile to have an RV Tech come along with you.

For ~$100 they may be able to inspect the truck for you as well (assume they are familiar with MoHo's). This could be money well spent.

The truck is a 2006 GMC crewcab dually 4x4. It has the diesel with the Allison tranny and 40K miles. It's a tricked out setup called the Regency package. This is after market package approved by GM, I think it was only available for 2 years. It's got custom fiberglass running boards, a custom wood and leather interior with individual TV screens built into the back of both front seats (we'd never use these unless there was something special our Airedale wanted to watch) and an after market 50+ gallon fuel tank, special wheels and I think it has a class V hitch, not sure what else.

My point about the truck mods is for instance; when you test drive be sure the airbags are set to the correct psi. If not you may walk away from a good deal because you think the handling is not good...whenit just needs adjustment.

Need more info on truck (sounds nice) diesel/big block? Allison tranny?

I THINK the price is a LITTLE high...not crazy...but a little high. Perhaps a good starting point (for seller!)

Without seeing this, I would say $40k is a steal and doubt I would offer more than $50k or so...but condition is King!

Again, it sounds like a sweet setup.
You will find you love the TC...such a convenient way to travel.

Evening Bill, sorry I didn't respond earlier, but we had company that stayed most the day. The only thing I know is that the seller said he added Firestone air bags and that it helps because of the tilt to the left because of the slide.

Consider yourself lucky to have the opportunity to test drive the pkg before purchase.
Any mods to the truck suspension? Be sure they are dialed in properly before you make your assesment (air bags, bumps stops, etc...)

Let us know if you have any questions on this.

Proceed slowly...but sounds like you got a good one on the hook!

Thanks for the sage advice Bill. Sounds like just being attentive to the normal things and make sure I have a flashlight for the harder to get to places.

I've run with a dually since 1991 but according to my manufacture spec's the 117 would far exceed the posted load rate, it's the reason I'm considering the total package. I'm also a bit concerned about balancing the load. Not having any experience with carrying a camper with a slide, it seems like it could ride a bit lop sided.

The camper is loaded on the truck now so I guess we'll see how it all preforms when we take it out this next weekend. I'll take a number of photos while we're checking it out and be happy to post pic's after if anyone's interested.

Sounds like a sweet setup.
OK are very nice campers and should do well with the 1 ton truck.

Check for the usual; leaks, run all the appliances, etc.
OK are known for being one of the better built campers.

I've just joined and I've done so because it looks like all of you can help me with making a decision about buying a newer camper. I've been a round campers for a long time, currently have a 1987 Lance LC900 which has been great ( we've had it since 1996 ). My wife feels it's time for a little more room to move about and we're looking at a 2007 Okanagan 117. Since a number of you have one I'm wondering if you can shed a little light on how you like it, problems to look for and most importantly what kind of rig you used to carry it. It's quite a bit heavier than my LC900 and the folks selling it are interested in selling it as a package with their 2006 GMC K3500 Regency. I'd like to know what to expect and any help or insight would be most welcome.
