A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

Okay the diagnosis is Gall Bladder attack. It seems I have collected some stones along the way in my 69 years. Now they want to talk to me next week about removing it.

Add me to the list. If I had chest pain, nausea and I was diabetic, the only way I'd be posting this is if they had WiFi in the emergency room.

Richard - It might be a good idea to get yourself to an Urgent Care center (do they have those where you live?), I don't think it's a good idea to wait and see how anything that has to do with Chest Pain goes. Especially accompanied with nausea. Please take care of yourself - we are all counting on continuing to hear your wonderful stories and prayers - and you have alot of furry creatures depending on you.

Also, was wondering if the cause of Anna's "stones" was ever determined.

Prayers for you, Richard, as well as our troops fighting for our way of life and freedom...Happy Independance Day!

It sure is nice to have just a little cooler weather. Was 60 this morning and is only going to 78 today. Sure beats the heat index of 100+
Anna is really getting back to her old self. She and Sarah are romping and playing quite a bit. Anna shows no signs of anything being wrong. She seems to be quite happy and eager to go anywhere or do anything.
I want to wish all the FOOF's and the furkids a very happy and safe 4th. Let us not forget the troops overseas that are unable to be with their families because thay are fighing to protect our freedom.

Good morning everyone. It is going to be a lot cooler the next two or three days with low's in he 60's and the high's in the lower 80's. We have had rain for the last three days, a welcome relief from the dry spell we went through.

Mama, Hobo, Peaches, Suzie and Izzie are all doing well. What a wonderful life they have. Eat sleep, play, walk about town, they sure do love their beds scattered about the house. Hobo and Mama really love their beds in our room. When things get quiet during the day and I don't see Mama and Hobo under foot I just peek into the bedroom and there they are sound asleep in their kennel crates. They feel protected in there as that is their own little sanctuary. Hobo looks so peaceful when she is sleeping. I put an extra pillow in her bed cover to raise up the area where she lays her head, boy she likes that.

Mama just likes to curl up in a ball and cut those ZZZZZZ's. She and Hobo can make a racket when they both chime in. Suzie is becoming more protective about her home. She is dead serious about not letting strangers in. Its funny that she isn't that way when we are camping. I wonder if she will be that way about the new house? Okay its time to go for our walk, talk with you later

I am sure Izzie will be in for the shock of his life. He has never left home for any reason except for one trip to the vet a few years ago, he was not a happy camper.

It is a lot cooler here this morning after the rain showers. Sue and I took the fur babies for a walk about town, boy does Mama enjoy that. She gets so excited when she knows I am about ready to leave the house. She follows me from room to room barking and slinging her head from side to side and does her little dance to hurry me up. Right now she is lying on her bed next to the sofa just as happy as a bee making honey. She is such a blessing to have with us as she is so content with her familyand home. I hope she will like the new house just as much and I am sure she will because her Mom and Dad will be there with her.

Suzie, Peaches, Hobo and Izzie will like it as well I am sure. Izzie will like the view from the back of the house as it is all glass. He can look out the back without anything blocking his view. I have to go and clean the inside of the camper from the last outing, It's covered with dog hair, can you imagine? Okay, I will talk with you later.
