120 from Lee Vining to Moccasin

We plan to drive our 30-ft Class A with toad from Lee Vining to Moccasin through Yosemite. Is the 120 portion from Groveland to Moccasin difficult in a motorhome? I saw a couple of reports about lots of hairpin curves. Would really appreciate the opinion of an RVer who has driven this road.
  • I'm sure you can drive it but I wouldn't enjoy the drive if it were me. We chose to camp just inside the east edge of Yosemite at St Marys and drive the minivan to explore the area. That said, others have driven it in their rigs with no problem at all. I grew up driving in the flat lands of the mid west so it really gets down to your driving experience and your tolerance for tight turns, heights and possibly long lines of traffic behind you.
  • Ugh! Use google maps with the little man and see if the road looks satisfactory to YOU. Those switchbacks are going to be tight, even with your size rig...good luck...Dennis
  • I have done it from the Sonora side into and out with my 27' Class A towing my car on a dolly. Total length is 53' with no problems. I just go slow on the switchbacks and let cars pass when I can. JMO
  • Gawd, it's been a long time since we drove that route in an RV ... probably a 19' travel trailer behind a Ford Van . There are lots of hairpin type curves.... but to my recollection they were not difficult .... while taking a slow drive. I really don't think you will have a problem..... 120 had always been my favorite route from Sonora into Yosemite.
