128 vs 395

Opinions...?

I have travelled 395 from Cajon Junction to Ridgecrest in my MH several times. Kind of a boring ride.

However, never have I driven the 138 for the same destination. I have, however used 138 in an auto and a motorcycle, many years ago.

How would you compare those two routes in a MH?
  • I don't understand. 138 doesn't go to Ridgecrest. Granted 395 is pretty much a boring road, but going 138 to Palmdale/Landcaster and then Hwy 14 to 178 to Ridgecrest isn't that much better...if any at all.

  • Boring?? 395 can be very exciting when folks pass at high speed while texting. ;)
  • I use the 138, 14, 395 with bike, car and rv although it is a bit longer than 395 (on my Reno - Redlands 4 times a year trips). I also have a couple routes to get around the Lancaster/Palmdale stop go traffic. Recent work (still in progress) has upgraded the lanes and I find the couple miles added to the ride are more than made up by the reduced stress of driving through Adelanto and the sections by Kramers junction. It seems driver common sense and courtesy disappear between Ridgecrest and Adelanto.
  • I agree about the lack of courtesy on 395 between Adelanto and the 14, plus I agree that the 138 does not go directly to Ridgecrest and one must use the 14 from there.

I believe the 138 route is about 40 miles and an hour longer. However, I believe it is flatter for the most part. I don't remember if it is still only one lane each direction or has it been widened since 40 years ago.
