77 State Road Holbrook Az. To Hwy. 60

We will be at the Koa late Sep. in Holbrook on our way to Florence.Just curious to know if its a good road to travel towing a 5th wheel? When we get to Hwy 60 will go west to Globe and maybe stay at the Casino campground then on to Florence for our winter job.

Have never been in this part of the country so all help will be helpful Thanks Charles.

IMHO even though it is 20 miles longer it is a much better drive to take 180 South of Holbrook to 377 then 377 to 260 west on 260 to 87 and 87 south to the 202 the 202 to the 60 and then 79 to Florence. Sounds worse than it is you can map it out on Google. Also Instead of KOA Holbrook check out Canyon Point Campground, Coconino, AZ if you decide to stay there instead do get reservations or you probably wont be able to get in.

    Sent you a pm

77 is a good road. 60 from Show Low to Globe is mountainous with some hair pin turns in in Salt River Canon. I travel the 60 route twice a year, to and from Coolidge, pulling a 38 foot 5er. In the canyon just go slow, shift to 1st or 2nd before going down. You will use the same gear coming back up. Do you have an exhaust brake? It will help on this road.

Think I will take Tyrones Rt. seems like a much easier drive.
  • Being from CO I imagine you’re used to mountain driving. Your proposed route is OK unless you find 10 miles of switchbacks and big drop-offs in Salt River Canyon unnerving. If that were the case TyroneandGladys route might be the better choice.
