Alaska Highway Closed

Alaska Highway closed from the Yukon border to Coal River because of fires. Check road conditions before heading that way. (DriveBC)
  • The Alaska Highway just re-opened, though it's one lane, controlled by pilot cars.

I thought that was "normal". :B
  • Drove from Watson Lake to Ft. Nelson yesterday, lots smoke but the road was open could smell all the way to Stone Mountain Provincial Park.
  • I should have mentioned there's a nice little campground in Muncho Lake PP called Strawberry Flats. Right on the lake. It's a place where I had one of the most restful nights sleeping I've ever had, while on the road.
Maybe next time you're up that way?:Z

I agree. Stayed there in 2005 when there were fires in Alaska. Was so smoke, I drove from there straight to Tok.

WOW. That's a long day/night's drive, especially on those roads.:E I guess once you're past Whitehorse, you might as well keep going, cause there's not much between there and Tok?

I've done some long days too, for a variety of reasons. Weather was bad in Homer, AK 2 years ago, and we decided home was going to be the next stop, so we drove from there to Beaver Creek, YT in one long day. :B

Except some of the finest camping in the Yukon (boondocking, territorial campground, and full-service RV parks), along Kluane Lake :)
