Another carjacking?

I was wondering if anyone had additional news about this story:
https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/carjacking-ordeal-for-tourists-in-michoacan/
A few things seem out of place, such as towing a Jeep with a Honda Ridgeline. A Honda Ridgeline is not a very good tow vehicle. Plus the Ridgeline is a pretty capable off-road vehicle.
So. . .why does one need two off road vehicles, one towing the other?

There's so much fake news around and my ancient degree in journalism tends to make me question everything.
Thus, this post.

If a 16-year old wouldn't be caught dead being seen in it -

The vehicle would be OK in Mexico

Troll a shiny lure through a school of barracuda and act outraged when your line starts peeling off the reel?

There is absolutely NO drama in reporting a crime involving regular firearms. An AK47 or M16 is worth in excess of seven thousand US Dollars on the black market. FIVE DOLLARS EACH for 7.62 NATO rounds.

And finally this group has a permanent home in Troncones just north of Zihuatanejo.

They "didn't know" about dragging shiny lures around in Mexico? Gimme a break. I live here and it's always been a hot topic. Crooks usually steal coveted vehicles and they indeed use commercial tow services to steal them.

What's next? A report of camouflage sicarios waving a surplus USSR anti-tank Strella rocket launcher?

Members of criminal drug gangs are under death threats to not bring down the feds or military by assaulting a tourist. That's reality. The press reports that the crooks were armed with a cuerno. Can you tell me just how unhappy the tierra caliente jefe is going to be when the feds clamp down on them for something they did not do?

Another Foso in the pines. You can bank on it. When making millions of dollars a day someone is going to rob parking meters?

No drama without embellishments.

Yes. I read that. The reporter took the "story" from the "victim" without any fact checking. It's purely hearsay at this point.

There's no supporting evidence.

To many "facts" that do not add up, yes Jeeps are a hot commodity in Mexico but only one model, it is a status symbol, then the towing of the Jeep, that makes no sense, then that no one paid attention when trying to report the theft, too many adults stating the same facts, specially at a toll both if they had crossed and paid a toll the booth attendant would remember such a combination, rather odd.

That the consulate did not help them, that is believable they have these complete idiots manning the entrances that can not think further than "make an appointment by internet" I know I wanted to speak with a United States Marine at the Mexico City Embassy and I do not think that the idiots in the street bunker even know what a U.S. Marine is!

Then there is the fact that they could not obtain a police report not believable at all, and the fact that they crossed back to the United States with out going to Banjersito to report the thefts, two vehicles with 180 day TIPs one a truck and then the jeep to many coincidences, as my friend from the FBI always told me there are no coincidences in law enforcement.

To many facts that do not add up for a nice puzzle, I would discard this as a reporter that had no real story to tell and made up a lot of this, maybe the Ridgeline was high jacked or maybe the Jeep but to many items all in one story.

Most people know this but, this is the media. They print whatever someone tells them.
I know several older people who still refer to Jeeps as Willys.

Maybe the Jeep was set up for off road use only? They didn't want to tear up the Honda, which was their ride home.
