Any suggestions for a stop between Philly & Charleston, SC?

We're heading down in March and haven't decided on a place to stop on the way down. I'm thinking somewhere to stay 1-2 days in mid-March. On the way back up we're thinking of stopping in Charolette ...

We're right in between Philly & Wilmington DE. I'm thinking we'll be going down along the coast and coming back through Charolette & then Luray. My current plan was to stop around Richmond, but that didn't sound too fun. I'm either going to do the trip in 2 or 3 days and haven't made that call yet.

I'm thinking we'll do the CBBT and will look into Virginia Beach, Wilmington and the Outer Banks.
