AR to Waco. Campgroud or RV suggestions?

Again, thank you all so much! (This forum is SO helpful!) We have just returned from our weekend trip and here is what we learned/experienced:
1) PawPaw n Gram - you are so right about the washboard roads I-40 to McAlester! Due to an unexpected last minute RV repair - we didn't take the route we intended to on our way TO Waco therefore took this unbelievable bumpy route!
2) We did find out that the Airport COE & Midway were closed. But upon recommendations here...spent the night at the I35 RV Park and it was GREAT! (Free made to order breakfast and nice clean pool for the grandchildren - such a plus!)
3) After visiting Magnolia Market & Bakery, Harp Design, Spice Mkt, etc we ate at Papa Rollos Pizza - Great pizza & food! Headed on to Canton for the night per advice on here.
4) Stayed at Mills Creek Ranch Resort - WOW!! This place is AWESOME! Clean, beautiful, 2 swimming pools, Lodge, playground, paddle boats, fishing, camp store, too many things to list - ALL for $25! Paul Michael Company located at the entrance was a plus for the wife! We will definitely be back to this place!
5) Took the suggested route 31, 19, etc for the trip home.

If you don't have the RVparky app for your phone get it and use it to search the area. I use this app while on the road too. I count about 10 parks in the Waco area and have stayed at Quail Crossing before. Its a few miles outside of Waco proper but that made for nice quiet nights. The park is not much to look at really (hey, its Texas) so if you want a resort setting don't stay there. I liked it myself and would stay there again, the people who own it are nice (or were when I stayed there) and very helpful. Do your research.

Actually the worst part / mistake from / to Fort Smith and Dallas is US-69 from McAlester to I-40.

Avoid if any way possible. Worst washboard road I've seen in decades.

US-271 is a much better road, with little traffic.

Not sure of your starting point, but from NE corner of Oklahoma, Waco is less than a one day drive, whether going through Dallas or trying to avoid it by going through Paris et al.

I've made the trip through Paris many times, not Waco bound, rather on my way to Texas Medical Center via Canton, Crockett, Huntsville et al. Paris is a goo halfway point for that trip, if I'm inclinded to split it, although Hoston to Tulsa is certainly doable in a day.

There are a few interesting looking RV parks between the Red River and Paris if you are coming down the Indian Nation Turnpike. I've not used them, either I was traveling san-RV or the timing wasn't right. While Paris might seem too close for a first day stop on a two day trip, it is probably about halfway, and Pat Mayes Reservoir makes for a concentration of camping locales you won't see again until you get to the other side of the Dallas-Ft Worth Metroplex, i.e. Waco.

And I'm already a day too late.

Take 271 to Tyler , right on Loop 323 to Hwy 31 all the way to Waco.

Take TX-19 from Paris thru Sulphur Springs and Canton to Athens - the west on TX-31 to Waco. Many nice places to stop for the night near Canton.

This would be my route to Waco from Fort Smith. Since we live in Northeast Texas we come down US 59/US 259 straight to our home town, but 19 would be the way to go to Waco.

We also prefer Airport COE, but I have no idea if it is closed because of flooding. The COE has a good web site which will answer that question, and, if it is open, you can pick out your site when you make a reservation.

We love Airport COE park northwest of the town, and also use Midway. However all the COE campgrounds have been closed most of this year due to flood damage. Midway and Speegleville have RV hookups and are scheduled to reopen on July 31.

Two places friends have used and like are Riverview Campground and I-35 RV Park.

Be advised temps will be over 100 degrees during the day and over 80 for the nightly low. Try to get a shady site, and 50Amp power to run two ACs almost all the time.
