Atlanta.... any issues

Hi Georgians,

Picking up a motorhome with toad in Woodstock Georgia, coming from I20 east in South Carolina. Want to avoid the east side of Atlanta (285) if at all possible during the week. Can you suggest a good route since we are concerned with a used vehicle if it has problems on the road.

Any suggestions are appreciated. My wife gets spastic around Atlanta!!!!
  • Just use IH-20. Compared to IH-85 farther north, it’s a cakewalk. Charlotte, NC to ATL one of the worst drives in USA

The “bad” part of ATL is 285 N of where IH20 intersects, either side of town.

The loop around the south side has its problems, but nothing like up north.
  • Don't fear Atlanta.... just pick a slower lane and go with the flow, whatever it is. Best time for me is 10am or 2pm..... easy.
  • Hwy 78 out of Augusta to Thompson then take Hwy 278 all the way into Atlanta. Basically parallels I-20.

I think that A1ARealtorRick statement hit it on the nail. Back roads would be a bad place to break down.

    Name of the town?
  • Can't blame anyone for wanting to avoid Atlanta. Seldom can I get through there with any less than a 1.5 hour delay. Seems they do most of their road construction during rush hour.
  • Since you're coming in on I-20 from SC, I would think the most logical route would be heading back on I-20. If you're concerned about potential mechanical problems, I think you'd be better off on an interstate highway than on any back roads.

Sure would be nice if you could convince the seller to meet you just outside the loop somewhere on I-20, but that might just be dreaming.
