AZ 260 to 87 to I 40.

We will be leaving Camp Verde the first of April, headed for Michigan with a stop in Sainte Fe. Looking at taking 260 to 87 and pick up I40 at Winslow. I have Driven 260 to the 87 intersection but not 87 to I 40.
We are pulling a 34ft 5er, need 13 ft clearance. Would 87 be Ok. Iam thinking that by the time we get to 87 we would be about done climbing. So the road might not be too twisty.
Thanks for any insight.
  • Definitely take your planned route of 260/87 to I-40. Once you make it up to 87 it's a super easy drive.

Your right, you need to see that area also.

I just did a google map look and didn't see anything that would concern. Its mostly a separated highway through the mtns... 260/87 from Payson to where 87 splits off looks like a good wide road. Maps showing big trucks using it... 280 then splits off in the middle or nowhere and 87/282 continues on through Sinkhole and starts clearing the mtns here on up to Winslow. Road looks good to me... Probably not the best time in the year to be in the mtns in AZ...

Looks like a good drive - go search google maps and make the drive just like I did hehe... zooom down until see cars on the roads using SAT VIEW...

  • You are correct. You are coming into 87 on the downhill side from Payson.
