- fanrgsExplorerWe stayed at the campgrounds at Tunnel Mountain in Banff, Lake Louise, and Whistlers outside Jasper last August. Just paid for electric-only sites at each campground and never paid the firewood fee as we can certainly do without campfires for a week. All have potable water (multiple faucets scattered all across Tunnel Mountain) and multilane sanidumps. Didn't care much for the in-line, edge-of-paved road-style camping at Tunnel Mountain, but loved the shaded, cul-de-sac, elk-filled campground at Whistlers.
After two trips to those parks in the past 7 years, Jasper is our favorite among the four national parks (Banff, Jasper, Yoho, and Kootenay). Pyramid Lake, Maligne Canyon, Maligne Lake, Mt. Edith Cavell Road, Athabaska Falls, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk 10 feet from our trailer and in the middle of the Icefields Parkway, glaciers, rivers, more lakes, other waterfalls, fantastic geology, and on and on. Don't miss it! - crabbin_cabinExplorer II

The Canadian National Parks have rubbed us the wrong way with the per person per day charges, rather than per vehicle & days, as the US National Parks are.
The CGs also, are not cheap & the daily 'fire permit' scam, is an irritation though the 'free' firewood that goes with it is nice.
So leave those areas for those of us who love them!! - ReneeGExplorerAlso, when we were there in 2005, the firewood was included with the per night stay. In preparation for our visit, we bought a Canadian Parks Pass which was a better deal.
- profdant139Explorer IIVeebyes, I must respectfully disagree -- yes, the campgrounds in Canada are more expensive than in most of the US. But we found that they were very well maintained, with nicer facilities. The rangers were industrious and well informed. I was happy to pay for the higher quality. (I'd prefer to boondock, but that is not permitted in national parks, on either side of the border.)

For $8.80 you get all the firewood you want to burn (within reason). Check out the price of firewood anywhere you want to and see how that compares. Most places around here are $8-$9 for a little bundle that you could carry one under each arm. - VeebyesExplorer IIThe Canadian National Parks have rubbed us the wrong way with the per person per day charges, rather than per vehicle & days, as the US National Parks are.

Tunnel Mountain Trailer court is the best rv park around. You probably MUST have reservations at this time of year, but I have heard they now have opened the area that has been under construction for last couple of years. This is our most favorite RV park. Little pricey, but well worth it. You can book on line too.
Enjoy...
We have stayed at Tunnel Mountain in Banff 3 times without reservations. We just try to avoid long weekends and Stampede time.
The one time we had reservations and were tent camping it turned out we did not need them. That was the last time we worried about reservations in Banff. - dkilleyExplorerTunnel Mountain Trailer court is the best rv park around. Enjoy... - RolinExplorerWe stayed at Tunnel Mt Trailer Court at Banff. Water and Electric hookups and the bus stops right at the campground. I think the all day bus pass was $5.00. We used the bus for touring the Banff area. Stayed at the Lake Louise Campground and found the train noise interesting but not a problem. Then went up to the Ice Fields and Jasper. Great trip.
Enjoy
