Best place to stop on i75 (MI to TN)

Since we've got a 10+ hour drive from our house to Pigeon Forge area TN.. I'm looking at where might be the best place to stop. I've heard that driving through Cincinnati is crazy, so we'll likely avoid that area for stopping, but ideally we'd like to stop at a Walmart and load up on groceries etc. too. Has anyone taken this same route and stayed somewhere the can recommend? I'm hearing not all Walmarts allow overnight parking anymore. There is a chance that we will end up driving further than Ohio - depending on how our little traveller does! We'll also need to make a few pit stops on the way - so any suggestions for "can't miss " food places would be helpful!
  • Thank-you everyone! Good to know about that area in KY not allowing overnight parking. We had looked at Lexington area originally - so that is good to know. Thanks for the tip about the BBQ place too!

Kentucky Horse Park if you want a campground. Not much between Dayton and Kentucky that is recommended.

Agreed, done the trip many times. Dayton to Cincy/KY line is TOO urban. We have spent quite a few nights in the Walmart at Berea KY, but in the past year, the city has changed the rules, NO overnight parking, its on all the roads and parking lots off I75. The Walmart manager said that he did not have a problem with it but city does.
That said we now have to look elsewhere, but there are lots of places further south to pick from.

  • There's a City Barbecue just north of Cincy off I-75. They're actually a chain around Ohio. Great meats and sauces, if that floats your boat. That location is relatively RV-friendly; I've gone there several times with my rig. It's in a large shopping center, so there's plenty of space to park your rig.

Most Walmarts will be amenable to overnight stays. There are many nice ones in Kentucky along 75.
