- sdianel_-acct_cExplorerIf you want to stay on major highways which we prefer, I would take I-65 south to exit 114 GA106 east (left) on GA106 to US31 south. Take US31 south to US84 east Opp AL. Take US331 south to US98 west to Ft Walton Beach. A bit longer but mostly US hwys. You can take FL20 east from Freeport to Hwy 293 Mid Bay Bridge Connector then across the Mid Bay Bridge but it's toll for both the connector and the bridge. About $18.00 total for both for 5 axles.
- edatlantaExplorerI agree with sdianel except:
Don't stay on US31 long. At McKenzie take AL55 south and stay on it all the way around Andalusia to Florala then US331 south to US98. Al55 is an excellent road with little traffic. US84 to Opp and then south on US331 is out of the way and AL55 is at leas as good a road with less traffic.
I will be headed this way on 5-15 heading to Panama City. - edatlantaExplorerI drove this route yesterday. They just opened a new bypass around McKenzie. You will go just barely over one mile on 106 and you will make a nice easy right turn onto the new bypass. There is construction on 331 south of De Funiak Springs. You are ok until you get south of hwy 20. It looks like they are building a new bridge over the bay. I made it ok yesterday, but there was little traffic. With a lot of traffic this will be a bottle neck, but there is no other way across the bay.
