best route thru chicago saturday morning?

In my opinion:

For northern New England, if you have a passport, US2 to Salut Ste Marie, through Canada to Montreal, and then whatever seems most appropriate.

For southern New England, if you have a passport, US2 to I-75S to I-69 , through Canada to Niagara Falls, and thence east.

If you don't have a passport, US-2 to I-75 to I-90.

I don't like driving through Chicago if I can at all avoid it. It is hard to avoid if one is seeing or doing something in the city (and there is a lot to see and do there, of course).

You can take I39 south to I80 east and pretty much bypass Chicago.

I agree with I39 to I80. That is our route when we go from WI to NC or anywhere on the east coast.

I39 and I80 are your best bet few miles farther but only two tolls and much more relaxing drive.
