BOSTON TO ATLANTA ROUTING NEEDED

GOING TO ATLANTA FROM THE BOSTON AREA. LAST TIME I WENT 84 OUT TO SCRANTON PA AND THEN DOWN 81 BUT FORGET WHERE TO GET ON OTHER ROUTES ETC. WONDERING WHAT IS THE BEST ROUTE TO TAKE CONSIDERING TRAFFIC AND DO NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH GW BRIDGE. WANT TO AVOID ROAD WORK AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. SUGGESTIONS? WE ARE DOING THIS IN CAR ONLY, NO RV THIS TIME.
  • I84 to I81 to I77 to I85 and into Atlanta. That adds about an hour, but it should be much easier driving. Shew, glad it's you and not me.

Depending on the time of day, it could SAVE HOURS.
  • The other obvious route would seem to be I-81 toI-40 to I-75. That can be somewhat slow through the general Knoxville area in my experience. I don't know whether I'd favor this over Merrykalia's suggestion, but I have done it a couple times and it hasn't been too bad.
  • I drive from Just north of Atlanta to Dutchess county NY quite often as I still have relatives in NY...I have tried numerous routes and the I84 to I 81 through Scranton continuing all the way through Virginia to 77 towards Charlotte has been the best and fastest without any Bothersome Tolls.....From 77 you can pick up 85 south directly to Atlanta....Quickest and fastest rout for me...From 77 take 485 which loops around Charlotte...This will connect you with 85 south.....Depending on time you travel the only place that I really have had traffic is when you are on 77 nearing the Charlotte area....
