I am looking for a good/close campground near Ottawa. I was really hoping Gatineau Park would work as it is beautiful and is only minutes from the city, but it looks like they do not even have electric sites. Any recommendations?

Thanks Fizz! I didn't look that closely at directions - just looked at them on a map for proximity to Ottawa as well as Gatineau Park.

We have looking to the Ottawa area for next year and have been looking on the Quebec side. Any thoughts on Camping Cantley in Cantley, Quebec? Their website says 20 km from Ottawa.

I had a quick look and it sounds good, never been there.
I found their directions confusing.
Lookup their address on GOOGLE map, much clearer.

It's a quick drive into Ottawa from there except rush hour, the two bridges are major choke points.

Wesley Clover Par is inside city limits and 15 min to downtown.

Reserve early.

All depends on what amenities you're looking for are.

Our favourite local is Poplar Grove, but we haven't been in a few years. We spend all our camping away from home, no use in camping 10 minutes from the sticks and bricks. E(30A)/W/S and indoor pool - anything else is unusable. No cable or wifi. HWY 31 right outside the park, go north and you're in front of Parliament Hill in 15 minutes.

One we've been looking at but haven't been to yet is Recreationland, between Ottawa and Rockland. HWY 17 brings you to Ottawa in about 20-25 minutes, but avoid during both rush hours. E(30 and 50A)/W/S/Cable/wifi.

Those are the only 2 local campgrounds we would consider.

We stayed at Ottawa Municipal CG in 2007. No sewer hookups (they do have a dump site) and only 30 and 15 amp service but otherwise, a very nice spot and handy to the city.

Don't have any experience with Ottawa campgrounds, but if you manage dry camping, Gatineau Park is a wonderful place to be. Gorgeous and lots of history.
