Camping at Ainsworth State Park

Just a note to anyone coming from the west on 84 to Memaloose SP, there is no direct access from the eastbound freeway lanes!! Need to go aboot 5 miles east to return on westbound lane to enter park. And to continue east from park, you have to go aboot 5 miles west to exit and return east!! A bit of upfront info.

Nice park, and yes, both freeway and rail noise, but as stated that's the Gorge!!

Memaloose SP to the east is larger, drier, and more open - and placed between the train tracks and freeway.

You don't get to appreciate the Gorge if you don't want to listen to trains. It's just the lay of the land.

After the first night, we don't even hear them anymore...

Read the reviews. One tenter thought the train was coming through their tent. Google maps satellite view shows the trains yards away from the CG.

I think any campground along the Colombia gorge you’ll hear trains. Some are very close.

Just to make sure here is the information out of the Oregon State Parks Guide 2017 - 2018 it has a lot of great information on the Parks.
It is a sad thing that many of the nearby hiking trails are still closed due to a stupid act throwing fireworks into a ravine.

Ainsworth is very nice State Park Unfortunately the Gorge fires have closed a lot of trails and roads around the park. There is still a bunch to do see the locks and some waterfall trails are available But check in advance because they are still closing certain sections off so they can repair the fire damage.

Last time thru there Ainsworth was really tight. Sites are not the biggest.
