Canandaigua NY >> Nashville TN >> Canandaigua NY

So, we are spending a week in Nashville from 7/13 to 7/20. The two families going down have planned on leaving Thursday 7/9 and staying in two different places on the way down (2 nights each) and then only one stop on the way back to get home for 7/22. We were thinking of going south through PA for the first stop, then somewhere in WV/KY for the 2nd stop and onward to Nashville. Then on the way back considering stopping halfway around Columbus, OH.

Two 3 year olds, one 2 year old and a 9 week old will be making the trek.

Any advice/thoughts on where to stay and what are the best routes to take would be appreciated!
  • The easiest way is I 90 to Cleveland, Ohio I 271 south to I 71 south to 65 in Cincinnati, Ohio and into Nashville. I have gone to Nashville on I 81 to I 40 many times and it is up and down hills all day, way to much traffic, cars and semi's and everyone going about 80 85 mph. Both routes will get you there but IMHO the route through Ohio is a much easier, enjoyable drive.
  • Consider changing your route. Count the major cities you will go thru or near. If you simply take I-81 south To I-40 west you will miss all of that, plus the ride is very scenic.

My map program says 800 miles is the shortest trip thru or near 5 major urban areas. My route is 980 miles. Yes it is longer and will take 3 hours longer if you hit zero traffic on your route....... but don't count on that.
