Colorado 160 Detour question

Hi All: We leave for Durango CO. from KC next week and will go via 160 from Walsenburg. It's looking like we may have to take the detour at Alamosa to Antonito and Chama to Pagosa Springs. For personal reasons we canNot alter our route other than this detour. Are there any RV/5th wheel/big rig friendly fuel stops in Antonito, Chama or Pagosa Springs?
Thanks
Greg
  • Thanks All: I left off one important bit of info. I need Diesel. I did find 2 stations in Pagosa Springs that have Diesel and the google map street view indicates I can get in and out with no problems. I will top off there and go on to Durango. We have reservations there so a park is not an issue. Actually glad I made them with a deposit very early.
    Appreciate your help.

  • We came out of South Fork Co area last Thur. The roads are still closed. We are in Monte Visata. Not sure if they will get to open back this season or not.
  • As of now Wolf Creek Pass is still closed due to the fire. As fast as the fire is moving the pass may be opened back up in a couple days. When you get to Walsenburg there will probably be a highway sign saying whether the pass is open or not. As of 10:00 pm last night the sign coming out of Durango still said it was closed. Good luck.
  • Agree with above. Fill up in Alamosa. Very little in Antonito. Pagosa has plenty of fuel stations.
We were just forced out of the area last Thursday along with hundreds of other RVers. All RV parks in the Alamosa area were full with evacuees along with hotels/motels. I would not plan on staying in that area unless you call ahead for reservations. The fire was far enough from Pagosa Springs as to not be much concern that side of the pass. But there could still be problems finding a place to stay due to evacuations.
  • Alamosa to Pagosa Springs via Antonito and Chama is approx 125 miles.
Fillup in Alamosa should get you to Pagosa Spgs ok.
  • locals in Pagosa Springs think they are safe for now since the fires seem to be going Northeast away from Pagosa Springs. If the wind were to shift and come from the Northeast they could be in trouble. The fire is close enough that they can see the flames from their homes. we are in Durango Colorado now which is 53 miles from Pagosa Springs and we can see the smoke plumes from here.
  • Not sure about Antoinito but Chama and Pagosa Springs have big rig parks. Check on this site: Click on the state and then the city:

Also, Pagosa is very close to the big fire on 160 so keep an eye on it and also the parks might be full because of the fires. Good luck!
