Looking into the route from Western Mass to Jasper NP in Alberta. Have 2 routes in mind.

1. Pick up 17 outside Ottawa and stay on it to 1 in MB, then 16 the rest of the way.

2. Pick up 17 outside Ottawa and stay on it to Sault St. Marie, drop down into MI and take 2 to Grand Forks, then due north and again pick up 16 outside Winnipeg and stay on it to Jasper.

I'm thinking 2 weeks for the one way drive, will come back through the states. Towing a small 5th wheel. Heading out early August.

I've not done any of this before other then driving around the north side of Lk Huron on 400 and 17.

Don't see much for 2ndary highways like I like to take in the states.

If you are familiar with this route, or parts there of, are the Canadian highways as boring as the ones in the US? How about availability of campgrounds? I'm taking it this is the, or one of the, main routes eat to west so services won't be an issue, right?

Any other suggestions or info are welcome.

Tree years ago we drove 17 to 1 all the way to Vancouver. Our favourite part was from sault st Marie around Lake Superior. The Rock, rivers and scenery. Manitoba, Saskatchewan and half of Alberta were pretty straight and flat, but fuel and campgrounds and things to see were plentiful. My advise, what ever way you choose, enjoy the drive
