Sadness in Ottawa

I watched the news reports on this. So sad...and prayers and thoughts for the families and people involved.

Such a sad day - actually week given events in Quebec - for Canada.

We do have a new Canadian hero, a mountie who never fired a shot in his 30 year police career, then took out a terrorist in Parliament with his first shot. It never occurred to me that the ceremonial Sargeant-at-arms carried a gun as well as the mace.


Maybe our MPs will behave themselves in the House after this!

Our prayers to the family of the soldiers, and our sympathy to all Canadians in the aftermath of this attack on a cherished military monument/memorial, and on the symbol of parliamentary democracy in Canada.

An RCMP? Yes. But I'm also even more glad that every tom dick and harry in Ottawa didn't have a gun today.

Cpl. Nathan Frank Cirillo performed his last duty with honour, guarding the Tomb of the unknown soldier. Stand easy Cpl.

The shooter then proceeded to Parliament Hill. Sergeant at Arms, Kevin Michael Vickers came out of his office carrying a pistol. He saw that he had a clear shot of the shooter and took it.

This has been a sad week for us Canadians. Although we are not naive in thinking this could not happen here in Canada it did, shockingly and surprisingly it did.

I have heard my fellow Canadians for the past year or so say that these despicable acts would not happen in Canada. That we are somehow different and protected from these radicalized crazies.
I have always said it was only a matter of time before this happened and I am truly sad to see it happen two times in 3 days in our country.
Hopefully more people will now realize we are not immune to these events and will be more observant and diligent in reporting situations of this behaviour to police.
My prayers and thoughts go out to the family of the slain soldiers and to our military personnel across the country.

Bravo & Thank you to the Sergeant at Arms for his duty in taking down the attacker.

SALUTE! to the young soldier killed, and to the venerable Sergeant-at-Arms who took this crazied radical out before he could do more damage.
