Excited!

Leaving early tomorrow morning on a week long vacation to Colorado! Going to see Capulin Volcano during the drive up, spend a couple days around Colorado Springs(pikes peak, garden of the gods, US Olympic training center), work our way up through denver to visit the wifes family, and goto Estes and Rocky Mtn National Park

Going to be a fun trip! I wish i had more time to spend there
  • Another site to visit while in the Colorado Springs area is the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine just outside of Cripple Creek. They take you 1,000 feet down in an old mine and show you how it was done in the old days. Very educational.
We tied it in with our day at Pike's Peak.
  • Be prepared. We drove up Pike's Peak about 5 years ago on July 4th. A storm came thru and dumped 3 to 4 inches of snow in about 30 minutes. We had to drive back down the first 4 or 5 miles on a snow covered road. It was fun, we were texting pictures to the family back home and it was 104 degrees there.
  • Was a great trip. We did go to cripple creek and RMNP through Estes.

The old Fall River Road was absolutely amazing going up to the alpine visitors center. Not so much taking the highway route back down. too many people lol

Pikes peak was quite the experience for us. Was raining pretty good down in Manitou Springs.. We decided to go anyway and the guy at the booth said they were shut down past the lake. But by the time we got to that point they were starting to let people through so we pushed on into the patchy clouds/fog. At the peak the visibilty was **** but we still had a good time. When the weather started clearing up the first train arrived and by then there were a ton of people there so we boogied back down

the way down was a nice mix of scary and beautiful. The first 2 or 3 miles back down we got some freezing rain/heavy rainfall but it cleared up into some amazing views at the brake checkpoint and on

Out of the entire trip, the drive up CO 67 through Decker (between CO springs and Castle Rock) was my favorite. Dirt roads, mountains, valleys, people fly fishing.. Absolutely beautiful
  • The mountains in Colorado are beautiful, especially when you hit the dirt roads and get away from the crowds. Everywhere we go we always compare it to Colorado and wish we had just went back there.
