Ferry Costs to Vancouver Island

Well, if you live on an island, you pretty much have to use the ferries, right?

I will boycott and NEVER use the ferries.

(I'm scared to death of deep water as I can't swim. I know it's an irrational fear, but it is what it is.)

Its called size up the savings. June 17 to September 13
Its for sailing on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 4pm from tsawwassen to and from Victoria or nanaimo.

Unless We All raise our voices to complain about these Ridiculous Ferry Costs and actually Boycott the Ferry System things are Not going to change!

B.C. Ferries has pretty much a Monopoly on Passenger Vehicle Service to and From Vancouver and Our Gulf Islands!

The Best way to show displeasure is to stop using them! eventually They will default on their Huge Debt and the Prices will be adjusted to a realistic level?

The BC Ferries are a Top Heavy Government Subsidised Essential Service that needs to be taught a lesson by Locals and Tourists alike!

Like many things generally when in Canada it costs us an arm and a leg compared to US side = food, gasoline, ferry crossings! Most RV items, electronics etc we find about 20 to 30% cheaper in the USA over Canada but of course that depends on the exchange rate at the point of purchase.

Canada has, sadly, gone the way of Australia and Gr Britain price wise.

I wonder if the fact that neither country has extricated itself from England completely by revolution (or any other means)somehow plays into this? There really is no reason for Canadian prices to be so much higher.

I have traveled from one end of Canada to the other north and south east and west in years past when the exchange was in our favor and gas was cheaper there. Now it's just not worth it.

We'll be staying at Pioneer Trails RV park in Anacortes for two days prior to taking the ferry, and also on the way back. Meeting friends there.

We use Anacortes both ways.
We stay overnight and get an early start in Anacortes when heading south, no rush hour traffic.
Do the same coming back north so it's a short 15 minute run in the morning to the terminal.
Reservations are no extra cost and convenient to do online.
Disconnect the towed and it will be cheaper normally.

Bc ferries dings hard for the length and extra passenger. If you are willing to split it out, it comes into the $290Can for your trip. We took that ferry a couple years ago, and theres a spot after you get off to rehook near the passenger parking. Just ask, they may allow the car with the Rv in the lower deck if they dont have a lot of large vehicles.

Oh hell..try looking at the BC Ferry cost from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy..or in reverse. It'll pop out at just under 2 grand for a 24 ft'r. That does include the passenger fare...whoopdeedo.

And, for us to go to Haida Gwaii in August in the 24 C..it's $670, return. Plus the $100.00 for a berth,. The sailing we are on is a night one and there can be a lot of 'activity' on the passenger deck. We wouldn't be doing this but..it is for a Memorial and we'll spend ten days wandering about. At more than $100 a night for a motel..I came out ahead.
