FMM online

I`ve just read that you can now obtain your tourist card online. I`m hoping that for those who attempt this method will keep us informed about how well it works. The web site had an English option but not for the form itself, which is a bit odd since tourists will probably have a different first language other than Spanish.

Thanks for that. Looks like you still have to stop to get it stamped when you enter. Too bad.....

this is the online newspaper where I read about the new FMM protocol. it sounds very new and will save time at the border during busy periods. If you cross somewhere and time that is not busy there will be no time savings. http://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/travelers-can-obtain-tourist-card-online/

You do not get the FMM or any other Personal Immigration Permits on line.
When applying for the TIP there is a Prescreening Application as a part of the process!
This is a way for the Mexican Government Agency to prevent fraudulent applications .

You are still required to apply for the Immigration Permit upon arrival at the Border . Having this pre approval form in your possession does not eliminate this step!

We still have 7 years on our 10 year permit.
From what I'm seeing on the above website, you still have to stop to get it stamped.

In order to get the vehicle permit you need to have the FMM first, than you can get the vehicle permit.

Thanks for the clicky.

To me, it looks like that's the normal site for getting vehicle permits. Are FMM's available on this site, too?

Graydon, we stayed at Cotulla the night before and we were at the bridge @ 8:am.
We have made 6 trips with our 5th wheel, but last year was the first trip without it and we instead rented in Huatulco. The drive is a lot different now without the trailer. Someone here is going to figure out we are not rving and kick us out.

Anyone have a link for the online FMM? It would save us a trip to TJ a couple of weeks before our departure, if it works, and you don't have to stop to get stamped.

Slowyiturn.. We too cross at Columbia but try to get there as close to 8:00am (their opening time) as we can.
This year we're trying something different.. we're leaving the motorhome at home and just driving our car down. We've rented a casita in La Penita. Because we travel with two dogs and don't want to worry about thieves during the night, we're going to check out No-Tell motels.

I tried to get the FMM and the TIP paperwork started in order to save time at the border, the system works some times and sometime it is a total waste of time, I ended with an RV, a 5th wheel, a truck and a car all on the TIP and no FMM, still spent one hour at the border possessing the paperwork, much better than the 2 1/2 hours I had allocated for the paperwork.

Even the folks at the border related that the internet site is a waste of time, they have a lot of problems with the paperwork generated by the internet site, so sometimes it works other times it does not.

Graydon, I was thinking to get both the FMM and the tip. Last year we were nearly 2 hours in line, 1 girl working only, at Columbia. We still made Matehuala early but I don`t like lines.
