Getting around Jacksonville, Fla

I have to deliver a automobile to Pompano Beach Thursday or Friday of this week. Will be getting on I-95 just north of Jacksonville. Should I go 95 straight through or 295 east or 295 west? I will be in a rollback F-550 for hauling the car. Any preference? My concerns are traffic jams like I have seen up around Savannah at all times of the day. Thanks in advance
  • Take the I-295 east beltway and avoid the bad sections downtown. Much easier and much better road.
  • Forget 511 at the moment (mid January) It is all screwed up!
  • Take 95 and stay left as it's the 95 through lanes. Travel through between 9:30 AM 3:00 PM you will be fine. Use 511 for Florida traffic reports when in Florida.
  • If you avoid morning and evening rush hours, going through downtown is faster and you get a great view of the city. The by-pass gets pretty backed up during rush hour also .....

The deal breaker could be any construction that might be on either one of the routes - I would check with AAA or somebody like that before the actual trip..
  • I prefer I295 east. A lot of it is a new road, smooth, wide shoulders, and often less traffic, but depending on the time of day it can get congested. That route does take you over the Dames Point Bridge so if high bridges scare you this isn't the way to go.
