Going to Alaska? Be sure you have planned properly.

Another in a long list of people that have not considered all the ramifications of going for a drive.

If you are planning on driving to Alaska, do your homework. Check to ensure if you are carrying any weapons, that they are legal IN Canada. Plus..if anyone in the party has a criminal record, they will get turned away.

He was on the way to smugglers notch in VT which is over 200 miles from the thousand island bridge and he said his GPS did it. His wife had a FL drives licence and her car was tagged in another state. He didn't know where his loaded gun was. They should have been stopped.

Why do you have to be aware and get your story straight? What the he$$ you up to.
I hope the border agents share A LOT of information. I like to sleep safe at night.
These guy have a tough job I appreciate what they do.
Crossing the border is no big deal unless your trying to conceal something. Just know the restrictions and go have a good time.

I completly agree with 3 oaks. If you are going to a different country you have to
obey thier laws.I have been through several Canadian, and Mexican boarder crossings. Road signs have always given fair warning.
This guy and his wife didn't know where they were, if they had a gun or where it was. Then tried to blame the entire thing on a computer (GPS) error. They did know they were listening to gospel music (whatever that has to do with it).
I don't buy it.
I back Canadian Border Police. Wasn't it an unsuspecting husband and wife that shot up Santa Barbara.
Good job eh!

I believe the headline of the actual article linked to is ignorant. Each country has their own laws. If you don't agree with a foreign country's laws and are not willing to respect them, stay out of that country. Don't condemn them. I have always found Canada a great country to visit.

Thank you, we try to be good neighbors.:B These people sound completely clueless, did they quit singing long enough to observe their surroundings? Judging from the news, Canadian border security frequently deals with similar incidents.

I suppose those same people would say screw airports, don't go there, screw schools, don't go there, screw federal buildings, don't go there. Clueless!

"I am sorry, officer. I didn't mean to" just doesn't cut it.

I phrased my post so that would have a chance of survival. Not become an anti-gun thread. Just asking that folks try and temper their comments accordingly. So far..all is good. I'd like it to remain so...that those that may require some subtle hints...get clued in.

Interesting story. So this guy is a retired US Army Sergeant Major & he doesn't know how to read a GPS, let alone where his gun is? Sounds like a fabrication to me.

My father is US Army retired LTC, and let me tell you, my mother does the navigating. Dad is not technology savvy.

Aside from that, he would ALWAYS know where his guns are, and would definitely be honest if they asked!

If you don't think you have any guns going across the border, but you're not sure, maybe it'd be better to check, right?

Gary, you are 100% right - PLAN, PLAN and RESEARCH for yourself at the RIGHT places - not on a forum of the uninformed.

I crossed into Canada this summer to go to Alaska with a 12 gauge shotgun with absolutely NO problem!!!

Why?? I PLANNED!! Did the research, filled out the form(1/2 page),had legal gun (met Canada's rules) AND declared gun at border. Took about 10 minutes inside and $25.00 permit fee. They did run a background check of course.

Just follow the rules (laws) and do it right and there will be no problems. This applies to hand guns as well. Also to food, medicine, etc.

I hope this will quit at least some of the "you can't take guns to Canada" crowd that don't do the research thus they DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT !!!!!
