Goose Point Rec Area VA To Fort Chiswell VA

Plan on leaving Goose Point Recreation Area near Bassett VA and going to Fort Chiswell VA. Will take HWY 57 (fairy stone park hwy) to HWY 8
(wool wine hwy)to HWY 58 (jeb stuart hwy) to I77.

How is that route over to I77, were 30ft class A towing.

Thanks for the reply. You said you have used this part of the road while towing. It's possible by going slow and taking my time, rather do that than unhook.

We have not been to Goose Point or for that matter in the area. My understanding that Goose Point is a great COE campground. Is there much in the area to do other than the Blue Ridge??

We have kayaks with us so looks like a good spot to use them. We'll be in site C5 close to the boat ramp.

BTW, we were volunteers for COE at Philpott for a while. Had to go to Goose Point about once a week or so.

seriously advise dropping toad at Stuart on US58, have someone drive ahead up the mountain to Meadows of Dan. Use cell phones to talk. Toad in front can advise you of traffic coming toward you around the curve. And, it is a HARD pull with toad attached. We do it with a 30' class A gasser V-10, and make it OK. Have down it with toad attached, but its really a pain. Stop at Meadows of Dan and re-attach toad. Rest of the way, just take your time, and its OK, but a bit narrow in places. Going the other way, it is another toad in front trip down from the Meadows to Stuart.
Wouldn't even try with more than about 34', but we have seen shorter trucks doing it. Nice campground at the Meadows.
