Made a trip down to Colusa via Hwy 70, Hwy 89, I-80, I-5 and Hwy 20. When we pulled into the Fairgrounds and set up ALL my clothes in the rear closet (a bunkhouse) were in a big pile. Not one hangar was on the rack.Then on our trip home from Vacaville on I-80, Hwy 89 and Hwy 70 most of the clothes were on the floor, two beers in the outside kitchen fridge (nothing I would touch, MGD, I drink only micros) were shook up and mostly emptied inside the fridge and we found a couple screws that had rattled their way out... And we had stopped at the Rest Area outside of Colfax for a bite to eat and must not have pushed it shut real tight because it was open when we got home it was open and some containers were on the floor. But nothing had opened.TIGHTEN everything down and secure the cargo... And I drive 60 mph max...

Yes, we used to have some of the best roads in the nation.(LONG AGO!) I think now we are among the worst. We have had the microwave throw the turntable out, the mattress come off the bed, the refrigerator look like someone turned it upside down and we never travel over 62. Taking all the hiway money for the bullet train.???? Sad. If we could leave I'd be gone but it looks like we're here to stay.

Unfortunately, I don't think the problem is limited to California. It seems the infrastructure in the whole country is lacking maintenance and rebuilds.But, there always seems to be plenty of money for other government programs or to build schools, etc., in other countries.Hopefully we will soon start to concentrate on rebuilding our highways and other transportation systems.Pennsylvania is constantly doing roadwork but, we never seem to get ahead. Slow down, grin and bear it. At least gas prices are down.

A recent estimate of the cost and time requirements are astonishing. Even if all the highway taxes the legislature was repaid and all of the proposed taxes for repairing the highways were available, it could not be done. The estimate is 2190 to do all the work which means that some of the work done this century will have to have to be repaired and taxes raised on top of what is proposed which by the way wouldn't pay the bills even without inflation. I could go on and on about the absurdity of what Jerry Brown cause the first time he was Governor but the DW is calling.

This is what smaller government looks like.

We visit our kids in California once or twice a year, after 1st trip of fridge surprises, we "Californiazed" our fridge/freezer for the most part. I still have to install heavy duty hinges on the doors. And a rear kitchen doesn't help. We even had a wire shelf fall down. These things help a lot...but watch for the plastic bolt rubbing on bottom of container bottoms. I thought whipping cream was hard to clean up. For closets, get some foam pipe insulation at Lowes or Home Depot and put on closet rods. It sort of cushions the hanger so clothes don't fall off.But on the positive side...soap pods in waste tanks sure have a chance to do their job.

Two hours ago, we pulled in from a trip to California. I-5 wasn't awfully bad until around Weed, but the streets in Sac were downright terrible. I was thinking about wearing a sports bra.
Sections of Hwy 97 North of Madras were quite good.
Now, I have to admit that E B I-90 in Coeur d Alene is about as beat up as a freeway can get. I guess that's what we get when we only pay $70.00 for new truck registration.

i had to resort to using latches and bungee cords to keep my cupboards and drawers closed. spring loaded rods help as well. my flat screen tv was removed from the wall and placed on the bed with a strap holding it there. i'm sure the roads won't be getting better until our elected officials and government workers decide to manage our tax money better.

Unfortunately California does not hold a patent on bay roads. Governments spend too much building new things and not enough on maintaining what is already built.

Have you thought about adding one of the shock absorber kits being offered for RV trailers?.
We have friends who swear by them and we are installing them on our rig in a few weeks.

bad roads in calif, you bet. they are so bad I refuse to drive in that state. I swear when or if they pave a roads many years ago, the put in pot holes every 20 feet or so.

Sailors know enough to tie things down in preparation for rough seas. Don't RVers do the same? Or do you assume that if the drive down was rough, the drive back would be smooth, so things average out?

And yet if the fuel tax is increased a single penny we all run around like the sky is falling.
And with the farmers pumping ground water as fast as possible the land is sinking and destroying the roads.

Probably not but, it would be a good start.
And, wouldn't it be nice to spend OUR tax dollars in OUR country?

Max towing for us is about 62-63 truck likes it at the speed. We have **** everywhere also.
