Hwy 395 from southern Idaho to Lake of the Woods, Oregon

Hello,
My husband and I are wondering if anyone can give us any tips on traveling Hwy 395, from Wilder, Idaho to Lake of the Woods, Oregon. We'll be pulling our fiver and we will be traveling in August this year.
Things we are wondering about are:

-road conditions (good, bad or ugly)
-stops for stretching the old legs
-emergency services along the way

Thanks!we appreciate the shared information.
Nancy
  • Why are you asking about just US395? According to the Google Maps suggestion you are spending a lot more time on US20 (Ontario past Burns). After a short length of 395 you are on local (county) roads through Christmas Valley, Silver Lake and on to US97.

Most of these roads are fairly flat, crossing the Oregon 'Outback'. Closer to Lake you start to climb into the southern Cascades. I haven't driven all this route, but what I've seen are fine. Towns are small and far a part. Cell service may limited.
  • Your short poprtion of US 395 should be in good condition. Two lane highway.
My routing program only shows about 40 miles. US 395 is generally all good two lane highway. Not sure what your route is!
  • US395 is a well maintained two to four lane highway from San Bernardino to the Canadian border. It goes through most cities on the route rather than around them which I like. I’ve never been unable to find a place to stop for breaks. Only congestion that slows me down is in the Reno area.
