I-10 east of San Antonio Tx

Beware of Houston and Baton Rouge traffic.

Depending on day and time of day, you may want to take Sam Houston Toll (Beltway-8) around Houston. If you don't hit rush hour, driving straight through on I-10 shouldn't be a problem.

Not sure how fast you drive but we noticed that in Texas, they tend to drive faster than when we drove through Louisiana.

When you travel through Louisiana, Use Interstate 12 to bypass the 10 through New Orleans. It's a shorter route. New Orleans traffic can be a nightmare and a white knuckled drive.

Hit Baton Rouge during the usual city times and you should be fine. Houston? Not to bad IMO unless you choose rush hour.

Try to come thru Baton Rouge between 9:30 - 3:00. Traffic is getting worse every day.

Out of state plates draw quite a bit of LEO attention along I-10/I-12. Make sure not to speed or give them any reason to pull you over.

Next question would be the best way to get from I-10 to the Naval station?

I went to knife and fork school a few years back in Pensacola and for the life of me I can't remember exactly. As I recall you can take some less traveled roads to get to the gate that the museum is located at. The main road that gets you to the base you end up going through town but would have to go through the base to get to the museum.

If you take your RV to the Naval Museum pay close attention to the signs for RV parking, the signs are very small and to us a little confusing. Great place though allow for several hours to see properly.

Houston - avoid rush hours and stay on I-10 straight thru. Baton Rouge - Avoid rush hours and when approaching from the west use the center lane on the Mississippi River bridge as it is the thru lane as I-10E chokes to one lane on the east side. Use I-12 to avoid going thru New Orleans. Road condition - There is a rough section (slab shifting) between Lafayette, LA and Henderson, LA. There is road construction east of Baton Rouge but no lane closures. It is good highway the rest of the way.
