- agesilausExplorer IIIIt is, and always has been, the worse section of I-10 between Jacksonville FL and the California border. There is always construction going on and the road is very rough.Whatever the politicians there spend their federal highway maintenance money on, it isn't the roads. The rest of the roads in the state are just as bad.
The reason that I stopped the comparison at the California border is obvious.
But there is no easy way around so you just have to get thru the state as quickly as possible. - chuckbearExplorerThe worst road we have driven on in the entire U.S. Next time we will do whatever is necessary to avoid I-10 in Louisiana. Chuck
- prichardsonExplorerThe rough section is between the Atchafalaya Basin and Lafayette and is currently being reconstructed and widened. Two lanes each direction are being maintained. An alternative is US190; but it has rough spots as well. There is also a rough section between Lake Charles and Vinton.
- bgumExplorerAbout like the roads in other states, some good some bad.
- stickdogExplorerIn '17' we traveled from Jacksonville Fl on I10 to AZ and found the road to be very good except for the Atchafalaya section most of which is elevated and built over swamp. Even that was mostly the concrete joints and more anoying than anything else.
- jake2250ExplorerAlso want to point out,,,, Both lanes,, Both Directions are BAD! No escaping it!

Geez....really bad if someone from California, the home of rotten roads, complains about it. - doxiemom11Explorer IIWe took 190 which runs parallel about 20 miles north of I-10. Only the connection area between 190 and I-10/I-12 had traffic. The rest was 2 lane country driving. Much more relaxing - We are 36' pulling a trailer so about 48' long - not problems with the roads at all.
- Home_SkilletExplorer III10 around Baton Rouge has expansion joints from hell.
It is horrible!!! - magnusfideExplorer II

Double ditto. The multiple hurricanes with their storm surges keep the section between Texas and Tallahassee FL in constant need of repair.
Drove a short distance on it last year. Got off ASAP. We’ve been driving I 20 for our East-West long trips in the southern tier.
