I-10 major delay

I-10 westbound at the San Jacinto River, east of Houston, bridge piling hit by a barge, unknown repair time. Traffic down to 2 lanes, sometimes 1.

I would take US 90 (College Street) off I-10 in Beaumont through Liberty and Dayton to Beltway 8, or I-10 westbound through Houston.

If you are eventually going northbound on either US59 (I-69) or I-45, take US69/287 north from Beaumont then US105 westbound through Sour Lake to Cleveland or on to Conroe.
  • I am going to Pearland/Manvel Saturday and intend to go that route and hit Beltway 8 west of Crosby from Orange.

I Googled mapped going through Bolivar, across the ferry and then
to Manvel and although is a few miles shorter it is an hour longer because of the ferry, lower speed limits and through Galveston traffic.
  • Saturday should be better. I think they have I-10 at 2 lanes now. Heck Saturday I might chance it on I-10. I got caught in it going from Liberty to Mont Belveiu about 4:30pm this week. Hwy 90 Dayton traffic westbound was backed up in the river bottom. Intersections in Dayton backed up bad.
  • Came through yesterday at 1:00 P.M.. Left lane merging to right two lanes 1500' from bridge. 2 minute delay and traffic then moved quickly.

Small correction. You mean take TX-105 (a state highway, not a US highway) west in Beaumont from US-69/287. Also note that there is a FM-105 (a Farm to Market road in Texas) heading north around I-10 exit 861 in Vidor that you SHOULD NOT TAKE. The identical numbers get some people confused. Note the highway signs and turns around Cleveland to stay on TX-105 and use the loop bypassing the town. There is also a loop to bypass downtown Conroe for access to I-45.

TxGearhead's advice is good and will bypass the temporary delay and most of the Houston metropolitan area. Since I live north of Houston now, I rarely use I-10 between Houston and Beaumont.

^^^Good catch on the 105 designation. And yeah that FM 105 out of Vidor will mess you up. We have a farm between Vidor and Mauriceville. Whenever I get north of Vidor I get turned around. I call it "my Bermuda triangle". Wife or I never lived there, but we run over there from Liberty regularly.
I had to go to Santa Fe (Texas) yesterday to get that piece of junk Pinnacle washer/dryer out of a repair shop. I-45 southbound and northbound around League City is a disaster. I truly believe they have been working on that road since the 1950's.

Great! Morning rush hour into Houston through there is a mess, according to morning TV traffic folks.
