I-40 in NC

NC-DOT announced today that I-40 both directions between exit 20 in NC and exit 451 in Tenn. will be closed at 4 AM Thursday. Repair work for another rock slide.

The road re-opened as of about 05:30 PM today.

They're going to have guys up on the cliff beside the westbound lane scaling loose rock off, so it'll be more than just clean up of the rock that's already down. Expected to last all day.

detour routes are: EB, take I-81N to I-26E to I-240E back to 40. WB, take I-240W in Asheville to I-26N to I-81S to I-40.

Oh goodness. We leave Friday afternoon on a 6 week trip and wanted to go through there. I'll keep an eye on this. They say it will be cleared by then.

I was thru there Sunday afternoon. One lane was blocked. One huge boulder and a lot of other stuff. If the rock slide has not increased, It should not take long to clear up.
