I-75 in GA - Accident Prone

Just over a year ago, our 1st time in Georgia, we were going south on I-75 about halfway between the northern border and Dalton. We were just passing a weigh station, driving in the center lane when all of a sudden maybe 100 feet ahead a small SUV ricocheted off the center wall, hit the strip of grass between the freeway and the weigh station's entrance ramp, rolled over at least once, dirt flying everywhere, and then landed on its wheels. It was all finished as we passed by. No idea what caused it. I looked in my mirror and saw cars pulling over to assist (maybe one of them was involved).

In the year I was in Nam over 50,000 people in the U.S. died by auto. It's getting better, now less then 100 people did every day. You just have to plan on the crash to be there, just like a fuel stop but more often.

Congested roads in major cities tend to have lots of crashes. Simple as that. After you clear out of Metro Detroit (and from Belview, you likely bypass the bulk of it), you hit Cincinatie then Atlanta is the next major city.

Aggressive police action often can make things worse. A broken down car on the shoulder can eat up 10% of capacity. A police car with lights on is even worse. So if the road is operating at 95% of capacity, pulling people over will push it into jamb conditions. Police enforcement has to be judicious or the cure can be worse than the disease.

The idiots are out in force alright. In Raleigh there are I40 and beltline closures almost every day. Police presence is almost non existent and the aggressive drivers know it.
The officers don't want to get Covid (can you blame them) in a contact and on top of that the retirement rate has been very high due to the way they have been treated lately.
