- I left just above Philly last Wednesday at 1pm...arrived in Richmond at 6pm... my waze redirected me around 895 (Baltimore) to 97 to 50 to 301... I assume that 95 was real bad, as it NEVER takes me that way.. ever...
Coming home on Friday was 4.24 hrs.... normal 95 stuff..
Can't help with any farther south.. - Second_ChanceExplorer IIWe do it all the time - but who knows what things will be like next week? We are almost always towing when we do it, so we use the loop around the west side of DC and 695 around the west side of Baltimore. I-95 is I-95... always heavy traffic - but still better times than the side roads.
Rob - ken56ExplorerThe last time I took 95 I swore it would be the last. In SC, every overpass joint was so out of alignment that it felt like we were being launched off a ramp and then the drop off the other side was just as bad. I don't know if its any better after 4 years or if they have repaved but that was the worst bridge alignment joints I have ever gone across.
- BurbManExplorer III-95 is like the LIE at rush hour all the way to VA. It's the east coast speedway for sure, even at "off-hours" it's a zoo. Philly, then Baltimore, Washington, and Richmond...I wouldn't drive that in a car much less tow the TT down that way.
I would strongly suggest 80 or 78 to 81 south, then run that to 77 south thru Charlotte. When you get to Columbia SC, 77 is only a few miles west of 95 so not that far out of the way.
Depending on when you leave don't discount the BQE....the new Kosciusko brid is open and half of the new Goethals is open, then only 1 exit north on the NJ tpke to 78 and then a straight shot to 81. - NY_RVerExplorerCrabbypatty,how many overnight stops do you plan on for the ride from the island to SC? We are thinking of heading down at the end of April, and can't remember the last time we went down with the TT if we did 2 overnight stops or 1. If I recall correctly, it was about 15 hours.
- CrabbypattyExplorerBurbman you have decided for me. Going 81. Last time I cut over at 66 to 17 to 95. Spent the night in Fredericksburg. Iwhen you go 81 to 77 where do you layover?
Ny Rver it's two day trip. I try to make the first day longer so my second day is shorter. From home it's about 14-15 hrs total drive time.
