Idaho Hwy 20 Mt Home to Arco?

I see from the map there are two ways to get from I-84 to Arco. ID from Mt. Home; Hwy 20 which looks like it climbs over a twisty pass or continue on I-84 then take Hwy26, (about 11 miles longer) I'm in a 28+ foot motorhome towing a car. I'm not crazy about two lane roads over passes. Recommendations?
  • Thanks for the info. I took Hwy 26 I just didn't feel like more twisty mountains, even if it is only for a short stretch. H-26 was ok except for two or three miles very rough road; felt like the expansion bands on the old concrete highways.
  • Thanks for the question and answers. I'm also going from Mtn Home to Craters of the Moon National Monument in late July. Was wondering about Hwy 20. Good to know I can go either route.
  • We've driven both towing. Both are good. Hwy 20 climbs with some turns, but nothing major and is a scenic route. Hwy 26 is good too, more stops because of going through small farming communities.
  • 26 is a much easier drive than 20; neither is bad. 20 is just more climbing and tighter curves.
  • I've never taken 26, but my guess is it goes through congested farming community & the road is probably narrower than Hwy 20.

I've been over 20 many times & it is a good hwy & not your typical 2 lane. It's also as stated above very open & not a lot of traffic.
  • Sorry- didn't specify- I took highway 20 off the 84. It's a little winding at first, but nothing to be nervous about. I thought it was a beautiful drive.
  • I drove it last year with my Tundra and 21 foot trailer. No problems, almost no traffic. You can see for miles.
